TForce | Starting pay

Hmm times sure have changed over the years.
When I started P & D with Overnite,back in 1986 I got $9.22 an hour straight time.
No overtime pay back then, but it only took 18 months to get to the top hourly wage.

Although back in those days things didn't cost as much as they do now.
I never thought I'd have to pay over $31,000.00 for a new GMC 4x4 pickup.
Why in 1981 I bought a 5,5 acre farm with a house, barn with an attached horse stable for $51,000.00
Which thank God I was able to pay off last year.
Kind of funny the financing on the truck was 6 years, but the farm which wasn't much more, was 30 years.

When I started in 1977 everybody started at top pay. There was no muti tier pay scale. That didn't start till 1982 or 83, after the Teamsters agreed to it in their contract. After that it wasn't long till everybody went to it. I started out making 19.25cpm running team. That was pretty good money for me then.
