hey I currently run extra board 5 days out and 2 days home. I was planning on changing that to 2-3 weeks out and then home for 2 days or so home. I was told tonight that has to be approved by my TM or OM. Is that true and why?
 
If you want to stay longer out ,you just need to let Line Haul know. That is rule out here west.Sometimes TM maybe needs you to cover schedule, but that is only thing that comes to mind.

Ok cool, yea that’s what I was told when I finished a few months ago. Wasn’t sure if something had changed that I didn’t know about or hear
 
Who told you it has to be approved?

I was under the impression that as an extraboard driver once you dispatch out from your terminal you report to central dispatch, and they do with you what they please.

I could be wrong on this.

I also thought Central dispatch frowns on extraboard guys covering schedule runs for more than a day or two? That' what combo drivers are for.

Again, I could be dead wrong.
 
I agree I wasn’t hired for set runs and really don’t want one. My night dispatch told me that but he sounded unsure.
 
Trust is earned, do not trust dispatch until it is earned. Untrustworthy dispatchers will use information you give them to screw you over and make their life easier.
