Teamsters Union Approves Two Five-Year Pacts With UPS

https://www.ttnews.com/articles/teamsters-union-approves-two-five-year-pacts-ups

"For current drivers, the new contract calls for a $4.15-per-hour raise over the life of the agreement, which eventually would bring a driver’s base salary up to more than $83,000 a year. The union said full-time UPS drivers now earn on average nearly $75,000 a year, or $36 an hour. There are salary increases for part-time workers, and workers will continue to receive their health insurance without paying premiums.

UPS and the union said they agreed to create 5,000 full-time jobs during the life of the contract, including a minimum of 2,000 sleeper team jobs by taking work off from freight railroad and onto trucks. The sleeper driving jobs will be among the company’s highest paid, reaching 96 cents per mile in 2022 for three-driver trucks..."

1) Three-driver trucks? :scratchhead:

2) Also, all annual numbers quoted assume a 40 hour work week. :biglaugh:

3) Members have yet to vote...

"Next month, members will receive the voting information they need to cast ballots. Members will vote by secret ballot via the internet or phone. They will have an individual access code and instructions how to cast their ballot."

More than 400 Freightliner Cascadia tractors recalled over tire issue

https://www.ccjdigital.com/more-tha...a3c973&utm_term=newsletter-2-daily-position-4

"One recall affects approximately 425 of the trucks equipped with Continental Hybrid HS3, size 11R22.5 Load Range G tires. The recall from Daimler Trucks North America states the tire cords may be visible through the innerliner in these tires, which could cause a sudden loss of air.

A separate recall affects only about 10 trucks equipped with Continental Coach HA3, size 315/80R22.5 157/154 L tires with the same issue."

According to multiple sources, the “three-driver trucks” is a reference to three trucks platooning....

Now the question remains, are these “sleeper-team three-driver platooning trucks” going to earn more as an incentive to embrace the new technology vs the non-platooning trucks??

 :couch:

I wish them luck finding six drivers willing to stare at each other's back doors all day. It'd get unnerving and boring pretty damn fast.

They're never going to find drivers willing to tolerate this uncomfortable practice for very long. Not even money is worth pondering your reliance on technology to prevent you, your team partner, and perhaps two more people behind you, from dying.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Not so sure about getting drivers. There's an ass for every seat and a seat for every ass...

I agree with the last line though. And we still don't know who is actually driving the test mules.

The thing to remember about sleeper teams is that they have to put up with each other, something not even money can ensure. A large measure of trust goes into believing that driver is competent enough to trust your life to.

And in this case, five drivers are trusting one driver to not wreck them all.

Brings back memories of a video we watched during a meeting where the driver continuously gets the annoying warnings and beepers for lane departure and after a couple of mins he still drives the truck into a ditch!!

Just a few more years to retirement....I’m gonna be happier mowing fairways and raking bunkers for minimum wage knowing I don’t have to put up with this ::shit:: any longer...just a few more years...
