Last Friday at nmp management implemented a "step saver" program. The daytime linehaul guys were called on the phone and told not to come in to work the inbound dock Friday morning, (as we have done for the past several years), but to call at 5 am. We were also told if we weren't needed in the morning, we would probably have to work outbound when we got back from our runs. Are any other SCs doing this? Let me hear from you!

Hmm let's see....yep for many years now. Day and night linehaulers at my house often work on both ends of their run.

When Marty was here, that was the norm. That was part of his scheme to totally f#&% up the service center. We still haven't fully recovered.

probably the strongest argument against the union there is. they work alot with senior drivers/take care of them with special perks. that would all stop in my opinion rightfully so

I'm also sickened by the title of this thread Con-way does not force you to do anything they let you change your bid every year my god what more do you want i'm sorry but some of you guys really are unreasonable

no i think it wouldnt change for them.there not on board anyway, besides we have enough cards allready, what will make them mad is they wont have a say in the contract,or any teamsters buisness, they will take a back seat to us junior drivers

If this union does happen, everyone will have a say. And everyone will have a vote. No one's will count any more or any less. It is this type of attitude that makes me believe this won't actually happen. People are in this for all the wrong reasons. And putting faith in ignorance. Claiming it to be the smart thing to do. Absolutley rediculous.

I realize the people that actually post are a small sample. But if this is how Joe Con-way thinks, we are all in some trouble.

But I will admit. Every union job I have had, the old timers worked. And were HARD to keep up with. Getting smoked by a 60 year old butthole calling you a girl is crap.

this info is incorrect as well, they will have a say in the first contract. But if they havent joined by the time the second contract, they will not have a say. in oklahoma - and each state needs to check their laws. i am sorry for the incorrect infomration.

I work for conway for 18 months it was a good job that realy sucked!!! I liked working in the city and would do so for 11 hours a day not taking lunch or breaks untill the pickups were all done. The worst thing about it was being forced to work the out bound dock when I got back in to the service center. and the insurance sucked and jr guys to me going on day line runs and I have to do the city cause thats were they wanted me. I think that choices is the biggest reason I had to find better work in the LTL. there is life after Conway and it is so much better.

The day-line guys at my barn work all their outbound freight just about every night. The city guys take care of their outbound freight. Shoot, the beginning of the year my terminal manager tried to get us night time guys to break our freight when we got back in the morning. He had the bottom 4 guys doing it the first week until a guy called the district manager. We were all pissed after already working a 13 hour day already. Its always been the city guys that broke it before and that is who is doing it now. Im refering to freight that was shoved onto a trailer to move it that was going in 2 different directions from our terminal.

I just wish we HAD day linehaul, something to work up to! Our #1 goes to NTH every night. We'd have it too, if not for sub-service!
