Anyway. Max Rail safety plus MORE rail safety does not change the current situation when you do not pay people to stay on the line in the various departments.
Last years NS Nuking of that one town in Ohio was a result of the train crew ignoring defect detectors which was confirmed by nearby cameras three miles prior to the town showing several rail cars on fire from freight car trucks that were compromised. And they did. not. stop.
The subsquent decision by the Government on the scene to simply burn it all instead of engaging in a expensive multi year Hazmat clean up was worse.
So theres no point in having rail safety.
I live near a main railroad line that has 80 mph freight of all kinds on two tracks and Passenger at 110. UP does a good job making sure that track and gravel etc under it plus the signals and so on are in good condition. Occasionally truckers dont swing wide and trash the crossing gates and they are replaced within the hour and so on so forth etc. They haul a hell of a lot of hazmat tankers through there. A RPG in one of those at night in the correct temp and wind profile will kill us all in our beds by morning with no one the wiser. Fortunately that has never happened.
