Did The Electronic Logging Device Mandate Reduce Accidents?

Hey everyone,

My friend, who is running a small trucking company with 3-4 trucks in LA, informed me that ELD device is mandatory for every commercial or Non-commercial trucking companies. Dec 2019 is deadline as per US Govt. Rule intended to help create a safer work environment for drivers, and make it easier and faster to accurately track, manage, and share records of duty status (RODS) data.
But....Is it actually reducing accidental cases???

I'd say no they've actually increased due to knuckle head drivers parking in unsafe locations such as the emergency break down lanes due to being out of hours. Also drivers are now parking in unsecure areas and being robbed.

Claims in '17 that ELD initiation saves Time, Energy, Accidents.

Currently, in the trucking industry, there are over 65,000 seats to fill; adding more laws and regulations is a detriment to the trucking industry. Still, as long as we are saving lives and avoiding accidents, ELDs are a positive move in the right direction to keep exhausted drivers off the road. In the long run, the benefits cannot be denied.

AND THE WEIRDEST PART: A 1/2 hour break AFTER 8 hours Driving because if a Driver has a 1/2 hour break BEFORE 8 hours and "it's too bloody early" (like after a mere 3-5 hours), you'll have to have a SECOND 1/2 hour break, so go figure.

I know our government is tightening up trucking regulations to save lives.
However they are also generating fines,for violations,which is not a good way to keep drivers around.
To many regulations,few people will want to get into trucking,or stay in the industry.

I must need a ELD provider at this time.. while looking for the "best ELD device", I got multiple options.... but have shortlisted top 3 ELD Device providers.

Very disappointed that Trump didn't block ELD mandate from going into effect. ELD and Sleep CPAP machines driving many people out of the industry.

ELD has nothing to do with accident prevention. That’s a tired bunch of nonsense. It doesn’t make you do anything. It simply tracks your time. Just like before, you can choose to not follow HOS. The only difference this time is now it’s recorded when you do.

You can put whatever you want in or on the truck to make you think it's safer, but unless you're putting a fully trained competent "professional" driver behind the wheel it's all worthless, because all the gizmo's, camera's, dodad's and report devices do is let you know "is HR doing a good job or bad job in hiring", because on this thread there's plenty of examples of sheer stupidity behind the wheel, I said "plenty" not all mind you.
