Im working part time as of now,Iv worked for estes for 13 years, was rifed in jan of 2010 and hired back in august of 2010 as part time.Im going back to extra board but in order to do that I have to yet again fill out an app, fill out background info and I will have to quit in order to do all this, does this reasoning make sense to anyone?

WTH? Who told you,you had to do all this to get on extraboard..I've never heard of this happening..

It's crazy but they are getting real strict with the policies since they've taken over G.I.
They are probably getting tired of the ........ "why did ya do him like that and not me" questions, so they probably do things the dumb, dumb way to make everything as fair as they can. I'm sure it helps keep the wannabee unioners to keep their bottom lip from sticking out

Get over your hatred for that company that hasn't exsisted for over 5 years now it seems to be eating you up. And just fyi when you got rifed at that company you got called back at the same pay and seniority as when you left. E is the one that had the rehire policy.

Is this at a different terminal than you were rifed from? We found out the other day that they're going to be opening a new terminal in Dayton Ohio and that drivers who live there and work at the Cincinnati terminal won"t be able to transfer due to a 70 mile rule. They will have to reapply and start all over.

Where in my post does it show hatred for G.I? .. If someone gets rifed on the normal side of the company he gets all of his stuff back as long as it is within 12 months and then it's up the terminal manager and/or regional manager after that point.
When a person comes back as part time his seniority is not counted and if a person stays on part time for more than 12 months, he comes back as a new hire unless the tm pulls some major strings. All of the laidoff employees had to do the app thing again. I only know of one that walked back on the job like he never left. I also know of a driver that worked for the company 19 years and tranfered to another terminal an was laid off because of the 90 day rule. A person has 90 days after his tranfer to regain his seniority back. He got laid off for 5 months because of the 90 day rule. So be careful of the time of the year you tranfer.

But what if you got called back as part-time at GI,just for instance that's all they had, what happened then?

could be wrong.. but the "working, part time now" thing probably has a lot to do with it. Don't know that anyone has had to deal with that classification, till now. mildew, you pretty much answered the same, on your last post

I agree...Like I told him,if they hired him perminant part-time,and didn't go through the procedures, then he's at their mercy...But, if there is nothing in the past that will harm his chances, then he doesn't have anything to worry about...But, being rifed, and not getting his company bennies restored, that puzzles me...The ones that I know, got theirs,no problem...

What procedures are you refering to Stark? I went to ELkton and filled out a new appplication, went through a background check, and a physical just like a brand spakin new driver.I just talked to another driver that was let go and came back to Estes after being gone one and half years, hired out of Elkton a month ago and even though he worked Estes extraboard for 10 years they made him go out with a trainer for two weeks, how nuts is that.I am going to call Mike if they tell me all this stuff has to be done, its really a waste of my time and their money which I thought everyone in Richmond was worried about.

Don't worry about their money brother...If you need a job, like the rest of us,go with the flow,IMO..By procedures,I meant just what you just explained..

Gotta love Estes, they do things in stupid ways, letting go of poeple that have 19 years probably because of the class they are in and keeping a brand spanking new Utility driver on because he knows how to work a dock..,,,, Please saw those utility guys sit and wait just like a Extra Board guy. Not to mention hub runs that really should be Linehaul runs, etc... I'm done, say it again anything that has to do with road should be one board and by your time of service, but that is to easy and gee we will break Johnnys little heart, but who cares about the guy that spent all that time trying to sleep in a bunkhouse, or bug infested motel, gotta admit though there were some nice hotels, I will give them that.
The sad thing is word gets out of how this company treats its people and all the dumb rules and well good luck getting good drivers, the smart ones will be smart enough to stay away!!!

Then we need to call it a "plague"...If a company can do it,and get away with it without repercussions, they'll do it..No matter what company it is..

Yep, same thing but a different color truck. We just have a very screwy seniority system. I think they will get it fixed soon. An 18 year man shouldn't have to watch a 3 month guy make $300 a day while the 18 year man plays with Ms Palm just because of job classification. If we were calling the shots and told the regional manager that he was only getting 1/2 a paycheck this week because the new dispatcher is going to do his job even though he don't know how to do anything, probably wouldn't go too well

Is this 70 mile rule a new thing or maybe just an excuse not to let anyone transfer. I know alot of drivers live farther than that from their terminals. Sounds like somebody is BS'ing you guys.

they want to bring in lower scale drivers is what it sounds to me

I think they want the same scale of driver they have now,in us..But want to pay less...And they may luck up and find some, but not many...Having least qualified drivers, cost more money...Rob,is a bean counter....
