I will be starting at Fedex Freight here in a few weeks as a city driver and I hope this is the job where I can retire at. Any feedback would be appreciated

Congratulations and good luck.

1.Never do anything unsafe.

2.Communication with dispatch is always key to everything throughout the day.

3.Have an open mind about working the dock.

4.Stay out of the Union debate.

1-- keep your mouth shut, mgmt does not like to be told that they are wrong
2-- stay out of union talk
3- dont call out any safety problems
best thing you can do is this-----
Shut up
Hook em up
Ignpre the safety violations
Truck em up

can you read between the lines?

Thanks Gargamel..I plan on doing all the above

You're getting on with a great company. You'll do well if you are flexible. In this day and age of LTL you have to be willing to do all jobs. I worked the dock quite a bit because it pays the same rate of pay as driving and I was a team player. I also voluntarily ran line haul when needed. It's all in how you approach it my friend. You get out of it what you put in.

I used to hear guys botch about lack of hours, but when asked to volunteer for the dock they refused.

You're going to hear quite a bit of bashing and bitching but here's my advice: ask yourself why they are still here if it's so bad? Exactly! :1036316054:

:::shit::: ya mattbob..I just want to come to work ,do my job,and go home without any drama
seems like the more you try to maintain 3 feet of personal space , the more you get drug in to everyone elses BS because when you are quiet and mind your own business----you get labled an a**hole with an attitude

Congrats do your job the way it is supposed to be done you won't have any problems, as far as being quiet and not getting pulled into others drama, don't worry about it, let people think what they want to because your not going to please everyone.

Blah blah blah! The dock blows and I'm not sure if any other LTL companies pull this crap and for good reason.
Oh you'll seldom hear drivers complain about it because they make more money and Lord knows money trumps anything else.
Stay in the city because it's probably wiser.
Eventually choose LTL and you'll be forced to work the dock after driving into the wee hours of the morning regardless of whether your tired or not.. Should you choose to sleep in the truck, be prepared to hear about what a POS you are from other drivers because they have to pick up your slack, and the FedEx freight guy in charge will threaten you with the loss of your job if you don't participate in the dock after your lunch break is through.
Oh sure u got plenty of dumdums here that'll drop their set as fast as they can without doing a post trip and run in place a doohickey on a forklift as if to save it for themselves and inevitably they will skirt the system and forgo the required lunch break. Welcome aboard private!
