I posted a reply earlier saying that the $7500 sign on bonus was something I'd never seen in Chicago before. But apparently we're worse off than even I realized, because the signing bonus here in good ol CGO is now currently $15000. Yes you read that right, we are now so desperate for linehaul drivers that we are dangling FIFTEEN GRAND in their faces to come work for us.

One would think that in the long run it would be cheaper to just quit treating the drivers like chit, but what the hell do I know, eh? :violin:

The same in Denver. I heard they are having a job fair in Denver this weekend. 1500.00 sign on bonus. I heard they are looking for dock workers too.

The flyer I saw said $7500 for Indianapolis, Dallas, Charlotte, Memphis and a few of the other big ones. Can't remember if Denver was in on that one or not. But it wouldn't surprise me if they were at $15,000 because they are always short drivers. This is so pathetic.

I have been with Saia 10+ years and Denver & Reno have always needed line-haul drivers.
Denver seems to get fully staffed about Sept. then snow starts falling, after a couple of trips to Grand Junction or
Wamsutter, drivers start quitting.

St.louis is hiring people like crazy. But like usual (on the surface) these drivers dont appear to be the cream of the crop...mostly central transport rejects. We NEVER EVER seem to attract drivers from yrc, abf,fed ex, ups, etc...not even fired former employees, let alone people resigning these places to come to saia. I was hoping one of our sycophant employees on t.b. could help me understand this phenomena.

I applied to Saia while I was working with ABF. They never called me back and I continued looking elsewhere. I was also told that they don't hire people who were in the union so I didn't even bother following up. It would have been nice since the Chicago terminal was 10 minutes away from my house.

I know guys who applied at the new Harrisburg terminal and were never called for guys with less experience. They won't look twice at union guys from what I know....

This may be true in reguards to the n.e. region.(saia is petrified of unions) however, at my terminal they've hired many supervisors. Former roadway employees.(i know mgmnt is different) but me personally, am a former c.f. employee. Im in my 14th year here....just sayin. Id keep trying if you wanted to.

Hey - anyone no how the 15k is paid out? one year two year? they keep calling me. I'm from mechanicsburg. but don't know if I should even bother.

I honestly wouldn't bother. I know quite a few of the drivers at the new NE terminals and most of them are ready to leave because of the camera BS.

Supposedly their lease on our Mt joy terminal is up in October. So I don't know where you would have to commute then. I heard Saia has some property in Harrisburg but not sure

Just wondering? I do my break where some of your guys switch. Got to know and run with them over the last few years. Seems a lot of grumbling last few months. Cameras and other BS. Surprised, they ask if we are hiring. Guys with a lot of time in. We are different colors, yet don't like seeing good guys getting ticked.

There's been a slow exodus of driver's ever since the cameras were put in. Lots of petty micromanagement going on from the safety dept so there are still tons of guys looking to switch but not sure if it's worth it to make the jump yet. Not all trucks have the cameras yet, so there are a bunch avoiding them like myself. A lot of us are waiting around to see if management gets rid of the Bluetooth/CB rule. Just a matter of waiting to see how long it takes before they can't find drivers at all.

Freight is already backed up all across the country and lots of these terminals are forcing drivers and dock workers to work the weekends which is pissing even more guys off. Can never find empties at the terminals, freight strewn all across the dock because they don't have enough trailers to load to, etc.

It's a giant mess, but the bozos in safety can't even see that they are the ones who have brought it on themselves.
