I didn't know there was a ice road thread over here on your Fedex Freight forum untill I saw Smokestack posting on it from the top of the truckingboards opening page.
Theres a thread on this topic at the General Trucking forum.
A few posters to that thread figured out the costs involved,if you were an owner operator to run the ice road.
They say you have to fill your tanks with high priced premium fuel so it wouldn't gell.
Theres also your logging, unless you live in your tractor all the time, and meals.
With tractors breaking down I thought it would be better to fly as far up into Canada that has truck leasing companies.
Then take out a short term lease for this short season.
It may cost you a lot for a high risk insurance policy in case the tractor went for a swim.
Looking at all of the costs involved,as well as the high risk, the only reason I can see for doing this is if your retired looking for an adventure.
Although I guess you could drop your set,or route trailer if your an LTL driver.
Then shoot up there to draw as many loads as you could before your company catches up with you.
The only problem there is more then likely they would fire you.
Then you'd have to look else where for work.
I wounder if a stunt like that would be brought up when the next perspective employer asks what kind of worker you were for them?
The bottom line here unless your retired it wouldn't be worth it.
