Does anyone else feel like they are driving all over the road correcting when you have a brand new trailer for a lead with a lot of weight on it? I was told to use more grease on the 5th wheel.
 
Can't be much worse than a P23xxx trailer with the suspension bushings all worn out or completely gone. But as my coworker Friday said, I don't even do a post trip because I haven't hit anything.

I see so many people drop out without even thinking about looking up at the lights, let alone kicking tires. A large amount walk to the dolly and start disconnecting without seeing if all the lights were still working on the tail trailer.
 
I've hated these new trailers since they've arrived. There have been many complaints, through channels and the answer is always to add grease.

I crawled under a P39XXX the other day and checked the metal around the pin. It was very dry and seemed to be extremely rough - almost like a galvanized finish! Take your glove off and check it out...

There seems to be a couple issues at play here, the rough surface added to the different suspension definitely puts the wiggle in these wagons.
 
There are issues with the suspensions loosening up and moving around. If you get one that does turn it in..
Also had one where the pintle lock failed. Almost didn't cache it but had a glad hand seal issue and when I changed the seal I noticed a gap between the pintle and lock with the air supplied to it. Swing that trailer because the shop didn't have parts..

It takes return spring pressure to hold the pintle lock mechanism together.. When the return spring on the lock fails the spring in the air chamber pulls back but the lock does not. Separating the mechanism, there is a small rode that fits between the lock and chamber that falls out.

When you go to hook up and have to push the lock in because the spring failed. Check to make sure all the peaces are in there in the right places and they lock..
 
I wonder if they even know what they are singing for on the VIR. Sorry off topic.

VIR is no longer required, unless an equipment fault is found...and since many folks don't post trip...Also, am told by my safety guy, that VIR's will be electronic when we go to electronic logs. As for not doing post trips, I'm fond of saying "only a kamikaze pilot doesn't do a pre trip or a post trip".

So you'd rather haul old trailers???
 
The new trailers are much better for us city drivers. New ones don't bounce around like old ones.The old ones are like a popcorn machine. If you don't have a lot of weight everything gets turned upside down if you don't have it strapped in. IMO
