I have heard rumors that we are going to one Board in STL. I am really excited about this I think it makes everything fair!

Wont happen until 2013 and then only if company and union agree
That is correct. If a one board system is put in the next contract there will be alot of opposition to it. At our terminal, one board seniority was voted on about 18 months ago and lost. Our BA said unless it's put in the next contract its a dead issue at our local.

The only way I can see one board is if each bid is for at least one year.
That is a way to see if a dock worker would like running the line haul or not in every weather condition.
The only thing bad is if someone is hired for long haul and is at the bottom of the food chain when bid time rolls around.
Then if a dockworker was qualified to take over a line haul bid the line haul driver would be stuck on the dock.

But that is one of the things you must be prepared to deal with, when you desire to be in LTL.

Very well stated!

..something will be coming...Local Carthage is basically straight line...I can see you bidding on the classification once a year but bidding the run at least twice in the year as the contract requires...All thats really going to happen is that "FOR ALL PURPOSES" will be finally adhered to..classification seniority will be dropped.

what doesn't make sense is some terminals already implement one board seniorty and the rest of us don't, make everyone the same. I heard that the GBO terminal voted it in, but the company will not let them do it.

Yes there are local contract amendments, what works in one region may be totally out of the question elsewhere.
I was a Teamster over 20 years so yes I know this is true,as there is always a general contract company wide with local amendments.

One Board all the way!!!!!!!! Your time should account for something.. I hope I hope I hope

I don't know about that Brown22. There are a lot of drivers that will disagree with you on that. Line haul and P&D have always been separate seniority classification. In each classification the drivers works and sacrifices a lot especially in line haul to get their seniority. The P&D driver is home every night. So after years of building seniority and sacrificing home time on line haul. You want to make it where a P&D driver who for twenty years stayed home and raised his kids. Could now bump a line driver that has in my opinion sacrificed a lot more of family time over the years. You talk about fairness. To me that would be the height of unfairness.

Very good point.

Plus the fact every one of us was hired knowing the seniorty rules. If it wasn't agreeable, there were other jobs with 1 board.

I don't know what you said but you have a great avatar! These are the same exact scare tactics that Conway uses, And us Fedex Freight drivers fear. In the future UPS and FEDEX freight will have to work together to secure enough freight that the 2 MAJOR LTL's can survive. Who ever thought OVERNITE would wrap their arms around AF? You will see it within 18 months.
