What's the policy if u wanna change terminals?I work in ny abf terminal and want to move to nc and work for abf down there would I need to start as a parties and work my way back on union list or would I start out fulltime?

At one time ABF would permit drivers to transfer but not anymore. You have to quit and go get rehired. I do not know if it's expedited in any way because they already know you or if they jerk you around for six months while they go through the motions. Then you have to wonder if they'll screw you and tell you that you don't meet their hiring criteria when you get there. Additionally, you will most likely be entering Central States Pension Fund (CSPF) territory when you get there (not that it's and better or worse than Upstate NY). You might do better going non union there where you'll get some more money in your pocket. Take a hard look at health insurance copays and any 401K that they might offer.

If there is an opening at the terminal you wish to transfer to then you can. You would retain company seniority (earned vacation time) but would go to the bottom of the barn seniority list for work opportunities.

They're allowing that again? If they are the 'union' needs to get on the ball, document it and make it available for us moving forward.

I agree that they don't let you transfer. I was told you had to quit for six months. This came from a lady who hired in to the Chicago terminal. She had to quit for six months.

There is transfer language in the contract. However, ABF does not like people to retain their seniority....... They prefer you would quit and start over.

We lost a case involving transfer when the Pgh. terminal had 7 guys retire in January, and we had two guys on the seniority list in Greensburg......25 miles away........ who were laid off and working casual at Pgh . They presumed they would be transferred in at the bottom, but retaining company seniority for fringe benefits.

Not the case. ABF hired 7 guys off the street and refused to hire the existing employees who were working casual. Quit using them. Of course we filed a grievance,......it went down to that snakepit known as ERJAC , and they ruled against us on the flimsiest of pretexts.

One guy quit in disgust, and the other eventually lost his house in bankruptcy proceedings..........

Our new Freight Director should be familiar with the case,...... he sat on the panel. I still have my 60 pages of evidence, and the companies' one page rebuttal ( We Don't Want to Transfer Those Two Guys).....and the decision of the committee........ which was a complete insult...... from which there was no appeal.....

Yep! Here's to Ernie :guiness: And people wonder why we're so pessimistic about his reign over the freight division...no freight, all division.
