would we get a pension? time& a half after 40 hrs?

Well it depends on your contract. Every contract is different. You actually could loose bennies for some years or gain ? It's all up to the employees and company and what's agreed upon.
Ups freight and ABF have a good contract. We all know what YRCW has voted to give back things on their contract to save the companies money.
Just remember there is no guarantees in the trucking world. The teamsters push this idea of guarantee.
Companies profit ,service is what guarantees stability.
Yes overtime and delay pay are benefits that most companies pay and if that's what drives you to seek the union all I can say is good luck. But remember there are no guarantees.

I guess the term "benefit" is loosely used. Overtime and delay pay should not be looked at as a "perk" . This should be standard in our industry.
But our wonderful government looks at truckdrivers as second class citizens. There is no government mandate that states how truckdrivers are paid. By the mile , ton , hour , or a " percent " of what the load is paid are all most ways of pay. Just a clarification to what I said

We would get dues held out. Just what I don't need, another finger in the pie. Hey BeerBoy is that your baby picture?

Any one of these ltl companies could fire everyone tomarrow and take away all benes vacation etc and pay the new breed .40 a mile and have drivers waiting in line breathing heavy. I'm thankful for what I have and always say thanks to the dispatcher before I leave the terminal even if its a load across the street. If I have to play yard jockey before I leave, no problem. If I get held up 4 hours, no problem. I have a beautiful wife at home but you'll never see me in a big hurry to get to the next terminal or home.

we just don't realize how lucky we are, look at all the union companies that has went under.Estes has made enough money,if it were to go union he would close down doesn't need the headach.they stay in bussines now because they can.they have to be able to operate at a profit to make ends meet and they want to keep a family tradition going.

yes its suck when u have more length of service and they give the overtime to the driver with less service time they do what ever they want with u but if we where union they would play right........028 chicago

A lot of our new hires get more hours because the long timers don't want many hours. Our guys get mad when they can't go home at 5pm. How do you make everyone happy?? Maybe they should pay everyone a set salary and send the senior drivers home after an hours work and work the newbees into the ground. That should do it. I should run for regional vice president.

all you have to do is call the hall in your area get about 30 guys to go to a meeting ,sighn cards and get in .even a turtle wouldnt get anywhere if he didnt stick his neck out!

The keep "Dead Wood" around and keep it on payroll. Don't let the more intelligent, more qualified, better attitude person with an hours less seniority tell him anything or run his run when he don't show up for work. They will have to pay them both.

Ask somebody from Pulaski what happened when they stuck their necks out. :hide: They are back up and running full speed again btw

This is NOT your fathers trucking industry anymore. In this economy and recession one should be glad they have a job, especially a full-time one, and not calling for a union or comparing benefits vs a union carrier. Unions are a fossil and will not be around much longer as they cost a company tremendous amounts of profits. Sure, there are some things we should be paid for and which we aren't, but in this economy with such high unemployment, it's the company that has the upper hand right now and they will not be increasing benefits or wages very much at the moment. For every driver that quits or is let go, there are probably 10 waiting in line to fill his position.

We are paid very well for what we do, more than your average trucking company, and the economy will get worse before it ever gets better. Therefore, be grateful for what you have, work together and bite your tongue when things don't go your way once in a while as talk of a union is futile as it will never happen.

How long ago did they open Pulaski back up?Just asking because I heard they had become a driver term. which is what we are in 071,we also have been hearing they might do the same here but who the hell knows anymore what Richmond is going to do.

Why is it that the word Union is always equated to the word benefits, and the word benefits always equated with the word, or pharse more money. Could not the word Union be equated with the pharse job security, or call back after layoffs, or recognition of senority???? Why would a driver who is already making a ton of money have to have more money. Seems to me the important thing here is to keep the money you are now getting, to keep going.
